EL-Announce with LM_NET Select (Education and Library Announcements) allows library media professionals and staff an efficient and low-volume way to stay in touch with LM_NET postings-- without joining LM_NET directly. It also allows school and library related vendors and organizations an acceptable, effective way to send notices and promotional materials to library media professionals and staff who want to receive them. All EL-Announce with LM_NET Select list members join on a voluntary basis.

Rationale for EL-Announce with LM_NET Select

Mike Eisenberg and Peter Milbury, founders and moderators of LM_NET, established  this list server as a service to educational vendors. LM_NET, the online discussion group for school library media professionals, is a relatively high-volume discussion group of over 11,000 members, with many more reading through mirror sites and The LM_NET List Archives. LM_NET is unable to accommodate commercial postings and other promotional announcements. This situation is similar with most of the other K-12 online discussion groups. However, many school librarians and other technology using educators indicated a need to receive such messages-- if the messages are truly beneficial.

EL-Announce with LM_NET Select (Education and Library Announcements) was therefore started to enable vendors and commercial entities to publish announcements. List members choose to receive these messages by subscribing to EL-Announce with LM_NET Select. Messages posted to EL-Announce with LM_NET Select are NOT regarded as SPAM!

EL-Announce with LM_NET Select is a moderated, read-only list. If you subscribe, you will receive LM_NET Select compilations three times a week, plus timely announcements of new products, services, or opportunities specifically suited the the education and library fields. This is an announcement list only--there is no discussion, but you will be able to reply directly to a specific vendor to obtain additional information.
